Marcus Porcius Cato (Latin: Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis) was a Roman statesman, born in Tusculum, a small town near Rome. As an old man he was respected for his wisdom and eloquence. He is known as Cato the Elder to distinguish him from his great-nephew Cato the Younger. He was elected consul in 106 BC, although he died before serving.
